No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
I won an auction for an SAE over 7 days ago. I paid immediately via paypal and the transaction was reported as immediate and complete. I waited to hear from the seller as I usually hear within a day of auction end. It has been 7 days without so much as an email from the seller. I sent him an email on day 5 politely stating I had sent payment and to please let me know when the item ships. Today I left a message on ebay for him as well stating the same in a very casual tone. Just letting him know I was so excited to have won and awaiting word on shipment. So far no word whatsoever. Seller has almost 2000 feedback with 99.5% positive so I wasn't concerned. Just curious how long one should wait until they take more action than sending unanswered emails. As of now I'm assuming family or illness is keeping him from at least answering my email.

May be something legit.......(fingers crossed) as the feedback is pretty high .but at the same time I have been hearing BOATLOADS of horror stories about transactions as of late.....
Nothing to do except wait it out some more.......I will be pulling for you that this guy is not a flake... T |
Re: No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
I'm pretty sure your obligation ends as of 7 days. Go ahead and start a dispute with paypal. Once you start your dispute, the seller still has 10 days to make good but if he hasn't in the period, you money is returned. You have nothing to lose by filing now. Hopefully, for your sake, the transaction is covered by paypal and a credit card.

(1) I bought... (2) I paid... (3) I contacted the seller... (4) I have not received the item, and no contact from the seller. The objective of this first stage of the process is to simply state your case, without questioning the seller's integrity. Hopefully, that will motivate the seller to complete his obligations without further trouble. Quote:

You might want to wait a few more days before filing a dispute. I would since the seller has a excellent feedback rating. Maybe the guy is just out of town for a few days or is experiencing some personal tragedy. In any case, you can always file a dispute at a later date if necessary.

Re: No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
The rules for paypal are simple. The seller has to send the item to the confirmed address and they have to ship within 7 days.
The buyer has 45 days to dispute the transaction as I recall. I'd wait about till 10 days and if there was no word, I'd send the dispute. As someone mentioned, the seller could have a good reason for "vanishing." |
Re: No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
with close to 2000 feedbacks
i'm sure he knows the ebay time limits be proactive - start the dispute process |
Re: No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
What if the guy got hit by a car while carrying your coin to the Post Office and it fell out of his pocket and rolled into the gutter and fell down a storm drain?
Now that would suck. I'm just thinking out loud here. |
Re: No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
I had one like that where there was no immediate reply. I got very nervous and it was about 10 days before I heard. Then another 4 before I was notfied they shipped. Got here in the end but emailed dates and postmark were out of sync so I didn't buy again.

Re: No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
I'm on the other end of this problem right now. I have received no contact from two buyers for 5 and 7 days. How long should a seller wait? Can sellers still leave negatives feedback on the buyer?

Re: No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
Sellers can still leave negative feedback for buyers. The rule that sellers cannot leave a negative or neutral feedback for buyers does not take effect until May 2008. Of course, the Buyer can then leave a revenge Negative in return. So it is still a lose - lose situation for the seller with regard to eBay feedback.

Re: No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
Just email him asking what date it was shipped and ask for the tracking number. Also let him know that if you intend to file a dispute next week if not satisfied with the response.
If you don't get a reply or goods by early next week, call them if you can, and if not, then start the dispute process with paypal. |
Re: No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
Hey its been a another week, did you have any luck? I usually email after 7 days and repeat it again in another 7 days. If no luck after 2 weeks, start the dispute process.

Re: No contact from Ebay seller, how long to wait?
Well, after four emails and about 10 days the seller emailed me two sentences. He noted that he felt he had corresponded with me when he had marked the item shipped under item details.
He noted it as shipped on day four but I had not seen it because it doesn't show on the first screen and I didn't know to click the details as I thought it would show on the first screen. Anyway guess I've been spoiled with always getting an actual email from the seller within a day or so of auction end as well as another when the item has shipped. I still think he could have answered my emails sooner but maybe he's not a big communicator. Lesson learned. I did receive the coin on day eleven so all is well. Thanks for the advise. I now know how to handle this type of problem in the future. I've also decided I prefer to buy my metal at the coin shows and coin shops. |

Glad it worked out for you .........I was really hoping that your first dive in your werent gonna get burned by a no show on the seller. good for you that you are gonna stay with coin shows and the like.....lots of people still talk about the deal that you can find on flea bay....but more and more I hear complaints more than anything else...... if you have a smooth Pm transaction that is becoming the EXCEPTION and not the NORM. Botton line ......shows and shops trump all you get your metal in your hand that day... If you pay a few bucks more who cares? that is the price you pay for having PEACE OF MIND.... I am quite sure you can appreciate that feeling now. Great going anyways!! T |
